Job Description: Senior API Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Senior API Engineer with a passion for building scalable public microservices and aggregation layers within Google Cloud Platform. This role requires deep expertise in developing microservice APIs using TypeScript, Node.js, Express and other various tooling. You will design and deliver APIs, focusing on high performance, security, and seamless user authentication through RBAC models. Your work will directly impact our customer experience, internal operations, and future product evolution.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 2+ years of experience developing and deploying APIs, with deep experience in TypeScript, Node.js, and Express.
- Proven track record of building public microservices and aggregation layers with complex data pipelines.
- Expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including experience with CI/CD, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and Firebase.
- Strong background in authentication and authorization models, with a focus on RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and cross-domain authentication across services.
- In-depth knowledge of API design patterns, RESTful best practices, and working with OAuth, OpenID Connect, and JWTs.
- Experience in building modular, reusable components to improve scalability and maintainability across systems.
- Strong understanding of SQL (MySQL), and NoSQL (Mongo), including performance optimizations like sharding and index lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with API gateway setups and rate limiting to manage traffic and ensure security.
- Knowledge of microservice monitoring and observability.
- Solid understanding of compliance standards (PCI DSS, SOC-II) and secure coding practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Preferred:
- Experience with Pulumi or other infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Knowledge of and/or desire to build AI Solutions to accelerate the business, provide additional tooling for operations team, and build insights for customers. N8N for orchestration.
- Bonus: Exposure to FinTech products and Cloudflare for DNS and API protection.
What you will be doing:
- Design, develop, and optimize public APIs and microservices using TypeScript, Node.js, and Express within Google Cloud Platform.
- Build and maintain RBAC-based authentication and authorization models to ensure secure API access.
- Collaborate closely with other engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to design scalable solutions aligned with business goals.
- Develop aggregation layers for seamless data interaction across services, improving system efficiency and performance.
- Implement secure, reliable, and high-performing API gateways, ensuring smooth API operations under heavy workloads.
- Continuously monitor and optimize services for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in API design, security, and coding standards.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends to evolve and enhance our services.
- Contribute to API documentation for both internal teams and external developers.
